MUCHEA CATTLE REPORT 22/06/2026
Total Yarding 586
Numbers remain conservative heading towards the end of the financial year. The sale was a mix of good quality local weaners and several pens of local cows while pastoral cattle sold over a wider range of condition. The market was very strong with most categories gaining in values as no local weaner steers sold under 500c and a pen of very well presented Droughtmaster cows reached 392c/kg. The usual line up of processors and feedlot buyers were present along with several seasonal restockers.
Local weaner steers gained 25/30c selling from 500c to 582c while weaner heifers also lifted 20/25c starting from 372c and sold up to 496c/kg. Local yearling steers returned slight gains making 420c to 498c while yearling heifers were selling from 340c to 492c/kg. Pastoral steer calves sold over a wide range of quality and lifted 25/30c with stores starting from 286c and sold up to 420c when showing more finish. Pastoral heifers followed suit over a wide range of condition selling from 216c to 430c/kg.
The few grown steers yarded returned 284c to 432c and even fewer grown heifers making 398c to 410c/kg. Store cows made 250c to 280c to remain firm while medium weights gained 20c returning 308c to 374c and heavy cows also lifted selling to a top of 392c/kg.
Restockers and exporters were paying 250c to 488c for young bulls while heavy bulls returned 280c to 360c/kg to remain firm

🚨 REMINDER – Mandatory eID Tagging from 1 July 2026 🚨
From 1 July 2026, all sheep, lambs and goats arriving at the Muchea Livestock Centre must be tagged with compliant electronic identification (eID) tags.
Any livestock arriving without compliant eID tags will be retagged by WAMIA, and the cost will be charged to the vendor.
All livestock must be booked at least 24 hours in advance via 📞 0476 849 901.
Transit sheep, lambs and goats must:
o Be unloaded at Ramp 26
o Be scanned on arrival
o Have a photo or scan of the National Vendor Declaration (NVD) sent to 0476 849 901
These requirements are critical to ensure traceability and compliance with biosecurity legislation.

Yarding 3,856 / sheep 638/ lambs 3,218
Supplies fell away significantly today with Just over 3000 lambs and 638 sheep. While most of the yarding consisted of trade lambs down to larger lines of store lambs there were several pens of heavy lambs as well as several pens of Merino extra heavy ram lambs reaching a top price of $378/head. Store lambs eased $5/7 while Mutton gained $8/10/head.
Store lambs started from $80 up to $201 while light lambs made $171 to $238 and trade weights returned $212 to $244/head. Heavy lambs up to 26kg cwt sold from $240 to $269 and extra heavy weights realized $316 while ram lambs with an estimated cwt of 35kg sold to $378/head.
Merino wether hoggets ranged from $150 to $221 while Merino ewe hoggets were making $161 to $199/head. Heavy Crossbred hoggets returned $200 to $261 and younger rams sold to a top of $292/head.
Plain ewes sold from $89 to $130 while boning grades were making $140 to $190/head. Medium ewes returned $180 to $231 and heavy ewes sold to a top of $250/head. Mature rams sold from $150 to $196/head.

Total Yarding 679
Supplies were lighter this week without the larger runs of local and pastoral weaners of recent sales. The buying field was attended by most regulars however fewer feedlot buyers and restockers were present and as a result pricing on younger steers and heifers fell away 15/20c with the occasional pen reaching last weeks values. The cow market remained firm as did heavy bulls while young bulls were in demand lifting 20/25c/kg.
Local weaner steers were selling from 352c to 558c while weaner heifers started from 300c and sold up to 472c/kg. Plain local yearling steers returned 380c to 424c and steers showing more condition sold from 402c to 478c/kg. Plain local yearling heifers were selling from 319c to 356c and with more weight and frame were making 388c to 464c/kg. Pastoral steer calves were presented in a wide variation of condition with plain types starting from 220c up to 438c with more fat cover. Pastoral heifers also ranged in quality from very plain bodies selling from 162c to 296c and better bodies from 300c to 420c/kg.
The few grown steers yarded returned 328c to 400c while grown heifers returned 320c to 428c/kg.
Light framed pastoral store cows sold from 160c to 240c while bigger framed store cows made 260c to 314c/kg. Medium weight cows returned 280c to 342c and heavy cows sold to a top of 372c/kg.
Restockers and live exporters were strong on Young bulls and ranged from 220c to 450c lifting 20/25c while heavy bulls remained equal to return 320c to 350c/kg.

Today’s sale was still conservative in total numbers with just under 7000 head. The sale consisted of lines of well presented heavy lambs and ram lambs, large drafts of store and feeder lambs as well as clean up tail end lambs. Mutton was in short supply and again with a lot of plain lines lacking condition. Most regular buyers were present along with several feedlot buyers and an eastern states buyer competing on Light lambs and Store lambs with bigger frames to gain $10/15/head. Heavy lambs also lifted $8/10 while mutton remained equal on values.
Light framed tail end store lambs were selling from $50 to $140 while store lambs with feeder potential were in demand ranging from $150 to $220/head. Light lambs were also sought after making $170 to $230 while trade weights returned $220 to $246/head. Heavy lambs up to 26k/g cwt sold from $240 to $289 and extra heavy weights sold to a top of $341/head. Light ram lambs ranged from $65 to $150 while medium weights made $145 to $248 and heavy weights sold well from $251 to $339/head.
Store Merino wether hoggets sold from $100 to $200 and with more condition from $210 to $270/head. Light Merino ewe hoggets were making $100 to $160 and heavier ewe hoggets sold to a top of $222/head. Crossbred hoggets showing condition returned $180 to $230 and younger rams sold to a top of $212/head.
Small framed plain ewes were selling from $64 to $120 while boning grades sold from $130 to $176/head. Medium ewes returned $180 to $220 and heavy ewes sold to a top of $240/head. Heavy wethers ranged from $166 to $203 while mature rams sold from $50 to $181/head.

Today’s sale recorded good numbers given the time of year with a mix of local cattle and large drafts of young store pastoral steers, heifers and bulls. With a full regular buying field as well as several seasonal restockers from all areas across the state and an eastern states buyer sizing up the market, it was a very strong sale with gains across most categories. Local Weaner steers and heifers gained 30/40c on last week’s sale as did pastoral calves following the same upward trend.Heavy bulls lifted 25/30c while heavy cows were dearer by 8/10c/kg.
Local weaner steers were selling from 422c to 558c while weaner heifers started from 354c and sold up to 500c/kg. Local yearling steers under 400kg returned 408c to 534c and heavier weights from 320c to 478c/kg. Yearling heifers across all weight ranges started from 260c in plain condition up to 448c in finished and feeder fat scores. Pastoral steer calves were mostly in very good condition and sold very well from 298c up to 478c while pastoral heifers ranged from 200c up to 454c/kg.
Grown steers returned from 300c to 350c while grown heifers returned 340c to 440c/kg.
Light framed pastoral store cows sold from 120c to 188c while bigger framed store cows made 192c to 300c/kg. Medium weight cows returned 306c to 360c and heavy cows sold to a top of 372c/kg.
Young bulls local and pastoral ranged from 290c to 424c while heavy bulls sold from 248c to 350c/kg.
